Dream houses: “Rocksplit” on the island of Kea

This incredibly beautiful holiday home is located on the Greek island of Kea in the Aegean Sea. The island belongs to the Cyclades archipelago and is about 20km away from the mainland. The cottage is built for a family of four by the architects Faidra Matziaraki and Victor Gonzalez Marti. By using local resources and traditional building techniques, they have created a true masterpiece of modern architecture. The house has a bright stone facade that harmonizes with the surrounding nature. As the name implies, it is the result of careful planning and extensive Leandschaftsanalyse. The architects have used the traditional “Kotounto” construction, which does not build the building directly in the rocks, but in a specially created dry space between the rocks. From the inside, the house is just as fascinating as it is from the outside. The color scheme of the interior is neutral – the white plaster harmonizes with the light gray natural stone and micro concrete. The living room consists of living room and kitchen on the first floor, and bedroom on the second. In addition, the house also has an ecological solar heating.
